Your Body Knows How to Calm Down. It Just Forgot How.
Myofascial Release Massage
& Nervous System Bodywork
in Northfield, IL
You wake up at 6am and your mind is already spinning.
Your shoulders live up by your ears. Your jaw stays clenched even when you sleep. You snap at your kids when all you really need is five goddamn minutes to think.
You've tried regular massage. Stretching. Maybe even therapy.
The relief lasts about as long as your morning coffee.
Here's what nobody told you: Your nervous system is stuck in hyperdrive from years of being "on" … and no amount of deep breathing is going to fix a pattern that's been 20 years in the making.
The Problem Isn't Your Stress. It's Your Fascia.
I'm not just another bodyworker who read about nervous system regulation in a book.
I WAS the woman waking up at 3am with her brain spinning. I spent a decade as Director of Marketing for CLAS: Chicago Title’s Attorney Program — the definition of high-achieving corporate life running on cortisol and caffeine.
Then in 2007, I got so sick I had to find another way.
That's when I discovered Myofascial Release. Not the surface-level stuff you get at chain massage places — the real deal. The kind that addresses the fascial restrictions holding your nervous system hostage.
13 years later, I help other high-achievers do what I did: retrain their bodies to actually calm down when stress hits.
This Isn't Your Average Massage: The John F. Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach®
While traditional massage chases symptoms, this work follows the restrictions themselves.
Your fascia — the connective tissue wrapping every muscle, nerve, and organ — gets tight from years of carrying everyone else's stress. When it can't release, your nervous system stays stuck in protection mode.
What happens in a session:
Sustained, gentle pressure that allows tissue to actually let go
No routines, no force, no "let's work on your shoulders again"
Your nervous system learns it's safe to downregulate
You leave knowing how to support the work between sessions
Sessions may also include: Zen Shiatsu, Lymphatic Drainage, Reiki energy work, essential oils, or therapeutic cupping. Whatever your body needs that day.
When You’re Ready
This work meets you where you are and moves at the pace your body allows.Look, your nervous system didn't get dysregulated overnight, and it won't reset in one session.
But you CAN learn how to interrupt the spiral when it happens.
Calm in 5-4-3-2-1 is the same grounding technique I teach clients to use between appointments. It's not meditation or mindfulness BS — it's a physiological protocol that works when your brain won't shut up.
Six lessons. Two minutes each. Use it anywhere your nervous system decides to lose its shit.
This Work Resonates If:
✓ Your shoulders creep toward your ears without you realizing it
✓ Stress lives in your neck, jaw, or upper back
✓ You've been told "everything looks normal" but your body says otherwise
✓ You push through until your body finally demands attention
✓ You're tired of managing symptoms instead of solving the problem
✓ You want to feel calm without having to escape your actual life
Not broken. Not injured. Just stuck in protection mode.
What Clients Experience
Tamara has worked on some of my issues a couple of times and I couldn't be happier with the results.“I was suffering from terrible pain in my shoulder (to the point of wishing I just didn't have that arm--it was that bad). She was able to work her magic and bring me much needed relief.
Since I only get to be treated by her when I'm in the Chicago area, she gave me so many helpful tips for self-care. Without any investment in any specialized tools, she taught me how to make sure I can head off any recurrence of pain before it gets to a critical situation. She really cares about getting you better and to a better place.
If you've got pain, and especially if it's been bothering you and "nothing seems to help," I'd give Tamara a call. I serious think I owe my left arm to her!”
